So, I was offline for two days. From Te Anau, my last post within mobile network range, I took the Milford Road to Milford Sound. Surprisingly enough, there is no mobile phone coverage along the road. Thus, I was offline. Fair enough, there is so much to see.
The first day, Saturday, I just drove to the first camp site. I stayed at Henry Creek for the night. A beautiful spot near Lake Te Anau. My camper was parked under the trees. In the evening, the wind really freshened up quite a bit. At least it kept the sandflies away. The night was bright and clear (unlike tonight) and I could see the stars again. This time, I just enjoyed the view without taking any pictures.
On Sunday, I drove to Milford Sound and back – just about half way. I will spend the night at Cascade Creek.
Even though the road ist only about 120km one way, I enjoyed having time for frequent stops along the road, view points and a couple of short walks. (Missing the bug repellant though…)
The nature is beautiful. Mountains, waterfalls, lakes – I am not really able to capture it all in pictures.
Still, here are a couple of snapshots and impressions from the last two days.
As I am writing this post on Sunday evening I sit in my camper while the clouds are getting thicker. It’s getting dark soon and it looks like there is rain ahead. We’ll see.
Tomorrow – or today, Monday, – whatever you prefer, I am heading towards Queenstown. Charging the batteries at the camp site, refuelling and so on. I have decided on the route for the next couple of days and when within cell phone range, I might even set a date for the ferry crossing.
Enjoy the images. As always, click to enlarge.
PS: A few stars were visible last night. So, before the clouds covered the whole sky, I tried another shot. It still doesn’t compare to standing out in the open, though…
